2012 Bouldering World Cup – Vail, Colorado

The Bouldering World Cup continued  into the 5th round June 1st and 2nd at Vail Colorado, as part of the Teva Mountain Games event.

As always, Udini was on hand to capture the excitement.

Rock & Ice Magazine also had photographers on the ground to capture the action.

It was a tough round for the home team Americans who weren’t able to place into the final rankings, in fact Daniel Woods, 2010 Vail champion, ended up in a dissapointing 10th place. The women’s side fared pretty well but placed just out of the rankings, with Alex Johnson and Alex Puccio at 4th and 5th respectively, pretty high rankings for the american women.

An interesting setting innovation this time around was a hand jam on one of the Men’s finals problems. Apparently this was an issue for Jan Hojer, who wasn’t able to complete that route. Sean Mccoll of Canada came in nipping at the heels of Killian Fischhuber  who did his 4 tops in 2 less attempts.

The Russians Rustam and Dmitri were absent this round, and we wonder if Killian would still have come out on top if they had showed up.

Final results

  1. Killian Fischhuber [AUT] 4 tops, 7 attempts
  2. Sean McColl [CAN] 4 tops, 9 attempts
  3. Jan Hojer [GER] 3 tops, 3 attempts

  1. Anna Stohr [AUT] 4 tops, 14 attempts(!)
  2. Shauna Coxsey [GBR] 3 tops, 4 attempts, 4 bonus holds
  3. Juliane Wurm [GER] 3 tops, 4 attempts, 3 bonus holds
