Results

Men

Some quite hard boulders this round with only the top 2 climbers sending more than 1 boulder. With long problems, and perhaps also because of the altitude(Vail is 2.5km above sea level), additional attempts seem to tire competitors even more so than normal.

Rustam’s flash on Boulder 4 stunned the crowd but was not enough to beat out fellow countryman and climbing machine Dmitrii Sharafutdinov who was more consistent overall.

  1. Dmitrii Sharafutdinov(RUS) 3 tops in 5 attempts
  2. Rustam Gelmonov(RUS) 3 tops in 7 attempts
  3. Jorg Verhoeven(NED) 1 tops in 1 attempts

Women

Strong performances were seen all around. An amazing last minute send by Noguchi on Women’s 4 was matched by Anna Stohr, and the Austrian ended up with another notch on her well studded belt.

  1. Anna Stöhr(AUT) 4 tops in 9 attempts, 4b7
  2. Akiyo Noguchi(JPN) 4 tops in 9 attempts, 4b9, countback to semifinals
  3. Alex Puccio(USA) 4 tops in 9 attempts, 4b9, countback to semifinals

IFSC Scoring

Competitors are scored by the number of boulders they top-out, in the lower number of attempts.

Each boulder problem has a bonus hold in the middle, usually after the first “crux”. If there is a tie, competitors are ranked by the # of bonus holds reached and the number of attempts taken to reach them. If there is still a tie the ranking is based on their semi final score(aka countback)
