2015 La Sportiva Civic Game Bouldering Comp

civic game 2015

The 2015 Civic Game is here! By far the most interesting climbing comp in Taiwan, the Civic Games involve 2-person teams solving boulder problems together through teamwork.

Whether it’s stepping on your partner’s shoulder, pulling their feet up for a heel hook-assist, or pseudo humping them up the wall, a variety of cooperative climbing techniques will be on display come Saturday March 28th.

The climbing comp will be an all day affair from 8am to 6pm in the afternoon as various teams of same and mixed gender compete for prizes — we’re gonna go out on a limb and guess that La Sportiva is involved in this aspect.

Registration is available at http://c.j91.me/event, and live streams of the event will be shown on the main event page at http://c.j91.me .

The registration fee is $450, but all male and mixed gender teams are already filled up, so only all-female teams can currently register. The registration form is all in Chinese, but if you need help, please contact us and we can try to assist.

In an unexpected turn of events, Lithuanian male model Kipras Baltrunas has just won Taiwan’s 2014 National Bouldering championships. While a dark knight in Taiwan, Kipras actually comes with considerable competition experience, having represented his country in Bouldering at numerous IFSC World Cups. With all 3 medalists making 2 tops in the finals, the rankings boiled down to bonus and top attempts, with Kipras climbing smoother than the rest to take down the gold.

Held at Civic Bouldering Gym over the weekend, the National Championships are Taiwan’s premier boulding comp and also serves to select national team members. Foreigners such as Kipras, however are disqualified from this selection.

2nd and 3rd place in the competition were Taiwanese climbers, with young up-and-comer  Chin Tzu-Hsiang dethroning the reigning champ Chang Yeu-Shiang for the first time.

On the women’s side, National champion Hung Ying Lee soared ahead with 3 tops in 4 attempts.  Chia-Hui Hsieh from B-Plus placed a distant 2nd with 0 tops and 3 bonus holds in 3 attempts.  3rd place Mei-zi Lan followed close behind with 3 bonus holds in 5 attempts.
